MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will be providing free live streaming of e-rallies of national candidates for the May polls at the start of the campaign period next month.
In a statement Thursday, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the Campaign S.A.F.E. COMELEC e-Rally Channel on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/COMELECeRallyChannel) will give e-rally airtime to all bona fide candidates for the positions of president, vice president, senator, and party-list.
"The Commission will issue the pertinent guidelines on how the candidates and party-list organizations can participate in the e-Rally channel. This platform can help ensure that even those candidates who have less in followers can still have more in views and exposure, so to speak," he said.
The live-streaming will begin on February 8, the start of the 90-day campaign period for candidates running for national positions.
The Comelec has allocated e-rally timeslots for each elective position, which are as follows:
-Presidential, 10 minutes, 3 slots/night.
-Vice-Presidential, 10 minutes, 3 slots/night.
-Senatorial, 3 minutes, 5 slots/night.
-Party-List Organization, 3 minutes, 5 slots/night.
-Political Parties, 10 minutes, 3 slots/night.
“Every night, there shall be three Presidential and three Vice-Presidential 10-minute slots, and ten Party List 3-minute slots,” Jimenez said.
Meanwhile, the Comelec urged all political party/coalitions and candidates to register their official accounts, websites, blogs, and/or other social media pages.
They have until January 31 to register with the Education and Information Department (EID).
"Registration of website and/or social media accounts shall be done not later than 31 January 2022 through the link: https://bit.ly/2022NLESocMed," it said.
Comelec Resolution No. 10730 states that each registered political party/coalition and bona fide candidate shall register with the Comelec their social media pages which are already verified upon registration. (PNA)
