The political experience of the Presidential candidates for the 2022 Elections
One of the criteria of Filipinos in choosing their presidential bets is the candidates’ political experiences. To help you with that, here is a list of the political careers and experiences of the presidential aspirations for the 2022 elections.
Bongbong Marcos
Marcos served as the governor of Ilocos Norte during 1998-2007 for four consecutive terms. He then served his first and only term as a senator during 2010-2016. After that, he ran for Vice President under Miriam Defensor Santiago during the 2016 elections but lost.
Leni Robredo
From 1998 to 2008, Robredo was the coordinator of the Naga-based legal support group SALIGAN for those in need of legal assistance but could not afford to hire lawyers. She primarily catered to wives trapped in abusive households. In 2013-2016, she was a representative in the House of Representatives, representing the third district of Camarines Sur. In 2016, she ran as Vice President and won.
Ping Lacson
Lacson has served in the Senate for a total of 17 years, from 2001 to 2013, and once again in 2016 to the present. He worked for 32 years in the Philippine National Police, serving as its chief from 1999 to 2001. During his time in the PNP, he was the chief of many task forces and divisions. He first ran as president in 2004 but lost the bid to Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Manny Pacquiao
Pacquiao first attempted to become a politician by running for a congressional seat in South Cotabato in 2007 but was defeated. His political career began after he won the May 2010 elections. He became part of the House of Representatives from 2010-2013. In the midterm 2013 elections, he ran once again for a congressional seat, running unopposed. In 2016, he became a senator.
Isko Moreno
Moreno was the vice mayor of Manila from 2007 to 2010 under Alfredo Lim. In 2010 and in 2013, he was re-elected to the post under Joseph Estrada. It wasn’t until 2019 when he became the mayor of the City of Manila. He also became the chairman of the North Luzon Railways Corporation from July to October of 2017.
