Who is topping the 2022 Senatorial Surveys?
With just less than four months to go before the May 2022 polls, surveys regarding the senatorial bets keep appearing left and right.
Here are the results of the most recent surveys.
UM-IPO survey
The most recent senatorial survey is one conducted by the University of Mindanao-Institute of Popular Opinion. It was an online survey “on the preference of Filipinos for senators in the 2022 National Elections.”
Former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano emerged at the top with a 35.5% rating. Incumbent Sorsogon governor ChizEscudero comes in second place with a 34.4% rating. Next is former DPWH Secretary Mark Villar with 33.4%. Loren Legarda and media personality RaffyTulfo come in at fourth and fifth place with 32.6% and 26.9% ratings, respectively.
The next names in the list are: MigzZubiri, Joel Villanueva, Sherwin Gatchalian, Robin Padilla, Jinggoy Estrada, JV Ejercito, and Risa Hontiveros.
Pulse Asia survey
The results of the most recent Pulse Asia survey were released last December 22. The list mirrored the results of the UM-IPO survey with a few key differences. Cayetano, once again, topped the survey with 61.4% of respondents saying that they would vote for Cayetano.
Tulfo came in second with 60%. Legarda comes in at top three with 58.7%. Lastly, there is incumbent Escudero and Mark Villar come in at third and fourth place with 53.9% and 51.3% respectively. The next names on the list are MigzZubiri, JojoBinay, and Joel Villanueva.
Suprisingly, action star and political neophyte Robin Padilla came in at 9th place, trailing behind Rodrigo Duterte who has since withdrawn his senatorial bid. At 10th place is Senator and women activist Risa Hontiveros. Then, there is Jinggoy Estrada and then JV Ejercito and that makes the 12 senatorial cutoffs.
Key differences
It is quite remarkable that the results of these two surveys show the same roster of names vying for the top 12 spots. However, it is also worth noting that the rating amassed by Cayetano as first place in the UM-IPO survey is almost half of the rating that he garnered in the Pulse Asia survey.
