Why it’s absolutely okay to vote
While some of us are already decided that they will be voting, some of us are having second thoughts in doing so. This is perfectly understandable, especially with the recent turn of events in Philippine politics, others may doubt the worth and validity of their votes.
To help you in deciding, we’ve compiled a list of reasons why it’s perfectly okay to vote.
1. It is your privilege
Unfortunately, not every Filipino is granted the privilege to vote. Many of our countrymen can’t vote because they don’t meet some of the requirements. When you vote, you vote for those indigenous people who can’t vote due to a lack of legal documents and government-issued IDs needed for registration. When you vote, you vote for your children, who can’t vote yet but whose futures are affected by your vote.
2. You represent the People
You are considered as representative of the People through your right to suffrage. A good education sets you up with the ability to read and research. Use your skills to choose a good candidate for the elections and inform your underprivileged neighbors so that they can also make informed decisions for our country.
3. Your vote matters
You probably heard of this a hundred times but I will still repeat them. Your vote matters. It’s not just one vote, because one vote makes a hundred, a thousand, a hundred thousand—it may be the vote that will change the future for every one of us.
4. Resets our system
The Government should serve the People, not the other way around. Through the elections, we are given the chance to reset the system so we should use it to make changes that will not only benefit you or your children but also the general society.
It is absolutely okay to vote because voting is a privilege that can determine the future of the nation. Moreover, people generally celebrate voting to be a good thing as it represents your love for your nation as you carry out your duty as a citizen.
I hope that these reasons lessened the anxiety or negative emotions you might be feeling when deciding whether you will be voting or not.
