MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday said there are 80 seats available for the first Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections (BPE).
Based on Resolution No. 11199, the Comelec en banc has determine the seat allocation that will be contested during the BPE which is being eyed to be held in September 2026.
"The BARMM Parliament shall be composed of 40 Party Representatives, 32 Districts Representatives, and 8 Sectoral Representatives," it said.
The poll body added that the 40 representatives of political parties shall be elected through a system of proportional representation.
On the other hand, 32 representatives will be elected from single member parliamentary districts apportioned for the areas and in the manner provided for by the Parliament.
It said there will be four seats for Basilan, nine for Lanao del Sur, five for Maguindanao del Norte, five for Maguindanao del Sur, four for Tawi-Tawi, three for Cotabato City, and two for the Special Geographic Area.
Eight seats are available for sectoral representatives that will be elected — two for non-Moro Indigenous Peoples, two for settler communities, one each for women, youth, traditional leaders and ulama. (PNA)
