MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is aiming to register some 150,000 new voters in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) by the end of the voter registration period this month.
In an interview Tuesday, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia attributed the high turnout to a rising number of registrants in the region.
“The number of voters in the Bangsamoro is increasing. There is a possibility that by March 31, we will reach 150,000 voters,” he said.
As of March 23, the poll body has processed 94,120 applications: Lanao del Sur (25,329), Maguindanao del Norte (20,579), Maguindanao del Sur (15,396), Basilan (13,047), Tawi-Tawi (10,461), and Special Geographic Area (9,308).
Voter registration in the region began on Feb. 9 and will run until March 31.
Nationwide, Comelec reported a running total of 3,356,106 applications processed. Female applicants lead with 1,743,099, while males number 1,613,007.
Region IV-A (Calabarzon) has the highest number of processed applications at 561,829, followed by Region III (Central Luzon) with 388,393, and the National Capital Region with 344,214. The Cordillera Administrative Region has the fewest, at 46,611.
Nationwide voter registration resumed on Oct. 20, 2025, and will continue until May 18, 2026, in preparation for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections scheduled on Nov. 2, 2026. (PNA)
