Comelec launches ‘Oplan Baklas’ in Zambo City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here Friday launched Operation Baklas and started removing campaign materials put up outside the designated common poster areas.

Joining the Comelec in the conduct of the drive were the Zamboanga City Police, City Engineer’s Office, and the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office.

Lawyer Stephen Roy Cañete, 1st District election officer, urged candidates and their supporters to abide by the rules on the posting of campaign materials.

Cañete said candidates should also observe the allowed sizes of campaign posters and materials.

“The campaign posters and tarpaulins placed in their headquarters should be three-by-eight feet only. We order them to remove all oversized materials since it violates the Comelec guidelines,” he said.

Cañete noted that Operation Baklas was initially conducted in two barangays in the downtown area and seven other villages within the 7-km. radius of the city.

He said the campaign materials were destroyed and dumped at the city’s sanitary landfill in Barangay Salaan.

He said Operation Baklas would continue without letup. (PNA)
