Lakas extends unity message to candidates, political parties

MANILA – House Majority Leader and Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) President Martin Romualdez on Tuesday called on all candidates and political parties to further unite for the good of the country, as he extended the unity message of the UniTeam where Lakas-CMD vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is running alongside Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Romualdez, who joined the campaign of the UniTeam in Cagayan and Isabela, said the country’s political leaders, political parties and those who are running in the upcoming elections, particularly those who are seeking national positions should work together as this is what the Filipinos wanted.

The Lakas-CMD president issued the call after journalists covering the effort of the UniTeam to solidify its hold of Northern Luzon asked him about the candidates and parties, especially the PDP-Laban joining the BBM-SARA tandem.

“Sa tingin ko nakikinig lahat sa mensahe ng UniTeam na basta sama-sama babangon tayo. Kaya itong UniTeam, 'yong mensahe na magkaisa na tayo ay napakaganda, 'yong opportunity na lahat talaga kesyo partido man o taong-bayan (I think everyone is listening to the message of UniTeam that as long as we unite, we will rise. UniTeam's message of unity is very commendable, the opportunity for all to be together, regardless of parties),” Romualdez said.

Romualdez said everyone, including candidates and members of other political parties, is free to join the UniTeam and become a part of its call and patriotic movement of uniting Filipinos and the country.

“Welcome na welcome lahat (Everyone is welcome),” the Lakas-CMD president said.

Assessing the two-day campaign of the UniTeam in Cagayan and Isabela as he responded to a question from a journalist, Romualdez said: “So far, Solid North talaga ito. Napakainit ang pagtanggap kahapon (Monday). Napakasaya ni BBM. Sinabi niyang masayang-masaya siya at nakabalik siya sa Norte (It's a solid north. It was a warm welcome on Monday and BBM was so happy. He said he was glad to return to the north).”

“Ngayon naman, si Inday Sara, nasa Isabela naman at makikita mo ang pagtanggap (Sara is now in Isabela and just the same you can see the warm welcome),” Romualdez added.

The Lakas-CMD president said the Cagayan and Isabela sorties were just the start of the UniTeam’s effort to solidify the “Ilocano” vote behind the BBM-SARA tandem. (PR)
