Leyte group pushes for Robredo-Duterte tandem

TACLOBAN CITY – A group in Leyte has been campaigning for presidential bet Leni Robredo and vice presidential candidate Sara Duterte in this year's elections, citing the need for women to lead the country in the next six years.

"We picked ROSA (Robredo-Sara) because of their track record. We have the same intention of change in Leyte,” said ROSA Leyte lead convener, Capoocan town councilor Reniel Capaycapay, a mayoralty candidate.

The group admitted that it is “very challenging” to campaign for the tandem in Leyte since the province is the bailiwick of presidential bet Ferdinand Marcos Jr., but they are largely counting on the help of volunteers.

"We belong to different parties, but we are all united to support the tandem,” he said in an interview Monday.

Capaycapay is a nephew of former House Speaker and Davao Del Norte Rep. Panteleon Alvarez, whose party, Partido Reporma, earlier expressed its support to Robredo.

The group held a rally in Capoocan town on April 22. Prior to that, there were parades around Capoocan and nearby Carigara town.

In the entire Leyte province, the group has about 100 volunteers with 40 of them in Capoocan town.

Nationwide, the ROSA movement is being spearheaded by Albay 2nd District Rep. Jose Ma. Clemente Salceda, Cagayan de Oro 2nd district Rep. and Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez, and Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar. (PNA)
