MANILA – National Unity Party (NUP) bet Philip Acop won the special election for the second congressional district of Antipolo City held Saturday.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) proclaimed Acop after the manual canvassing of votes at Ynares Center early Sunday.
Acop garnered 60,051 votes to beat his closest rival Reden Llama, who earned 12,054 votes.
Other candidates were Paulo Tapales with 10,080 votes, Nathaniel Lobigas (754), Dandin Infante (412), and Maria Trinidad Cafirma (199).
Acop, a former Antipolo councilor, will replace his father, Romeo Acop, who died Dec. 20, 2025.
“Despite the very short period given to us by law, the Comelec was able to conduct the Antipolo 2nd Congressional District Special Election. We do not have a budget for that,” Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said.
Based on poll body data, only 83,550 registered voters participated in the special poll, representing only 33 percent of the 252,793 total registered voters.
Acop will take his oath of office to be administered by Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares on Monday. (PNA)
