MANILA – A police officer assigned in Cebu City is the latest Philippine National Police (PNP) coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) fatality, raising its death toll to 99.
Citing reports from the PHP Health Service, PNP chief, Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Friday said the latest fatality is a 44-year-old lieutenant colonel who died on Aug. 18 due to acute respiratory failure secondary to Covid-19.
"On August 11, said patient experienced mild symptoms of Covid-19 and immediately underwent an RT-PCR (reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction) test which yielded a positive result," he added.
As of Friday, the PNP Health Service also recorded 179 recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 31,178 out of a total of 33,034.
Another 123 new cases jacked up the active case tally to 1,757.
Further, there are now a total of 86,843 or 39.09 percent fully vaccinated police personnel while 101,304 or 45.60 percent are just awaiting the second dose to complete the inoculation.
With this, there are only 34,022 or 15.31 percent of police personnel who have not been vaccinated.
Meanwhile, the National Capital Region Police (NCRPO) reported that it has recorded a 94.10 percent recovery rate, with 5,564 recoveries out of a total of 5,913 confirmed cases.
As of Aug. 17, there are a total of 331 active cases in the regional office which are given medical attention by the Regional Medical and Dental Unit, NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr. said.
Some 13,801 or 61.74 percent of a total of 22,254 NCRPO personnel have been fully vaccinated.
Danao also said NCRPO personnel with medical backgrounds are assisting in the proper handling and administration of the vaccines to the recipients.
"Likewise, as part of the commitment to fight the virus, the (remaining) 33.46 percent or 7,479 other personnel are still lined up to be vaccinated on their second dose for the coming weeks," he said. (PNA)
