VP Leni urges Surigao youth to vote wisely

BUTUAN CITY – Vice President and presidential aspirant Leni Robredo on Tuesday urged the youth, especially the first-time voters in Surigao del Sur to exercise their right to suffrage wisely.

“Sa pagboto, dito natin pinapakita yong pagmamahal natin sa ating bayan. Kung minamahal natin ang ating bayan, dapat nagdedesisyon tayo ng tama (We show our love for our country by voting. If we love our country, we should make the right decision),” Robredo said.

Robredo and her running mate vice presidential candidate and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan were in Surigao del Sur and Surigao del Norte on Tuesday as part of their continuing campaign in the Caraga Region for the upcoming May 2022 national elections.

In Surigao del Sur, Robredo and Pangilinan met their supporters at the Oval of Capitol Hills, in Barangay Telaje, Tandag City at around 1:30 p.m.

The two bannered their slogan “Gobyernong Tapat, Angat Buhay Lahat” during the campaign.

Making the right decision is not only manifested in attending rallies or participation in different activities, Robredo told their supporters.

“Dapat inaaral, binabasa at pinapakinggan natin ang iba't ibang nilalahad namin sa inyo (You should study, read, and hear what we candidates are relaying to you),” she said.

In a post on his Facebook Page, Pangilinan thanked the people of Surigao del Sur for their support to the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem.

“Naalala natin ang Tandag dahil sa napakasarap na mais na natikman natin noon. Sana ay may makasama pa tayong mga magsasaka o kaya mangingisda sa ating pagbisita sa Surigao del Sur ngayong araw (We remember Tandag because of its delicious corn [products]. We hope to see more farmers and fisherfolk in our visit to Surigao del Sur),” Pangilinan said.

After the Tandag City engagement, Robredo proceeded to Surigao del Norte where she was met by the top officials in the province led by Gov. Francisco Matugas.

Robredo joined Matugas in the unveiling of the marker of the “Bayay Silongan Project” and the Barangay Road Programs of the province for 2022.

Lay group endorses Robredo’s candidacy

Meanwhile, the Lipa Archdiocesan Council of the Laity endorsed Robredo’s presidential bid after a series of consultations among its officials and members.

"We, the Lipa Archdiocesan Council of the Laity, after having undergone a process of discernment through a series of meetings, dialogues, and consultations among the officers and members, arrived at the decision of endorsing presidential candidate, Maria Leonor 'Leni' Gerona Robredo in the coming May 9, 2022 national election," the group said in a statement.

"We believe that a good leader must be truthful, honest, just, and be able to serve the people first before his personal desires. Maria Leonor 'Leni' Gerona Robredo embodies these characteristics," it added.

The lay group said the endorsement was in support of the teachings of the "Aral Ng Batangueño" catechesis.

"Thus, participation in politics for Christian lay people is not just limited to non-partisan involvement. Christians are also encouraged to engage in principled partisan participation, which means that they can campaign for good candidate as an exercise of their Christian faith," it said.

Aside from the organization of laity in Lipa, some church-based groups that supports Robredo’s candidacy are the Couples for Christ (CFC), Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas (LAIKO) and the “Pari Madre Misyonero Para Kay Leni”. (with reports from Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
